Organic Eggs packaging concept
I hope this is a concept, merely the work of an active, somewhat misguided, imagination. The increase in amount of packaging, and associated environmental & monetary costs, is amazing. We should all be trying as best as we can to reduce our impact on our environment both directly and indirectly. In this case - buying eggs - the current model is wasteful but convenient, easy, no hassle. Go to store, pick a pack of eggs, buy, take home, transfer eggs from packaging, throw package in the trash, repeat. It's wasteful but it's easy for us to do. In fact, there is little or no alternative.
I think the system should, could be changed. Egg producers could deliver eggs in larger 'store-sized' containers, customers would come to the store with their own reusable egg container, fill it from the store container, buy, take home. No packaging to throw away, thus overall a lot less waste. Also, less energy will be used to manufacture the packaging, less resources consumed (water, electricity, transport fuel). And, the reusable egg-container will be more robust, long-lasting and more open to Good Design influences. Anyway, here's a link to the the Organic eggs packaging concept article.
